The Body Engineer - Sports Massage Therapy

1. Scope of Practice
1.1. Treatments provided are Sports Massage Therapy sessions focused on supporting movement, recovery, and general musculoskeletal wellbeing.
1.2. I do not diagnose medical conditions, injuries, or illnesses, nor do I provide medical treatment, rehabilitation, or prescribe medication.
1.3. As a Level 3 Sports Massage Therapist in training, treatment is limited to working around areas of discomfort or injury where appropriate and safe. Some conditions fall outside my scope of practice and may require referral.
2. Medical Disclosure & Client Responsibility
2.1. You are responsible for disclosing all relevant medical information, including injuries, conditions, medications, pregnancy, or recent surgeries prior to treatment.
2.2. Failure to disclose relevant information may increase risk and may result in treatment being refused or stopped.
2.3. If you are unsure whether Sports Massage is appropriate for you, you should seek medical advice before booking.
3. Contraindications & Refusal of Treatment
3.1. Treatment may be refused, modified, or discontinued if it is deemed unsafe or outside scope.
3.2. Absolute contraindications include, but are not limited to:
First trimester pregnancy
Suspected nerve involvement (e.g. sciatica)
Acute inflammation or infection
Undiagnosed pain
Recent surgery without medical clearance
3.3. If treatment is not appropriate, you may be advised to seek medical or specialist care.
4. Consent
4.1. By booking a session, you provide informed consent to receive Sports Massage Therapy.
4.2. Consent is ongoing and can be withdrawn at any time during treatment.
4.3. You are encouraged to communicate discomfort, pain, or concerns immediately so treatment can be adjusted.
5. Treatment Outcomes
5.1. Sports Massage Therapy is not a guarantee of specific outcomes or results.
5.2. Responses to treatment vary between individuals and depend on factors such as training load, lifestyle, recovery, and adherence to advice.
6. Professional Boundaries
6.1. All sessions are conducted in a professional, respectful manner.
6.2. Any inappropriate behaviour will result in immediate termination of the session, with no refund.
7. Appointments, Cancellations & Late Arrivals
7.1. Appointments must be cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours’ notice.
7.2. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice may be charged 50% of the session fee.
7.3. Failure to attend an appointment without notice (no-show) will be charged at 100% of the session fee.
7.4. Late arrival may result in a shortened session to respect subsequent bookings, with the full fee still applicable.
8. Payment
8.1. Payment is due after the session unless otherwise agreed in advance.
8.2. Accepted payment methods include cash or card, with card payment preferred.
8.3. Prices are clearly displayed and confirmed before treatment begins and may be subject to change with reasonable notice.
8.4. Failure to complete payment may result in refusal of future bookings.
8.5. The Body Engineer reserves the right to introduce advance or online payments in the future.
9. Liability
9.1. Sports Massage Therapy involves physical contact and carries inherent risk.
9.2. The Body Engineer will not be held liable for injury or adverse effects resulting from:
Undisclosed medical conditions
Failure to follow advice
Normal and expected responses to treatment
9.3. Nothing in these terms excludes liability for negligence where prohibited by law.
10. Data Protection
10.1. Personal and medical information is stored securely and used only for the purpose of providing treatment, in accordance with UK GDPR regulations.
11. Governing Law
11.1. These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of Northern Ireland.
